What Your Business Is Telling You About The Way You Lead

Taryn Cadena This Is Why Your Hires Don't Work Out

Most founders try to fix what they can see.

Sales slow down, so they tweak the offer.

Team conflict arises, so they schedule a meeting.

Systems break down, so they buy a new tool.

But what if those problems aren’t the root?

What if they are symptoms?

Because what’s happening in your business
often reflects what’s happening in you.

This blog is about something deeper.

It’s about the connection between your business and your inner life.

It’s time to stop patching surface problems and start leading from the inside out.

The Heart of the Business Is the Heart of the Owner

You’ve probably heard the phrase “your business is a reflection of you.” That’s not just about brand voice or design....

It’s about leadership patterns.

Energy. Boundaries. Habits.

If you’re seeing chaos, confusion, or misalignment among your people, pause before trying to “fix” them.

Start with YOU.

But not in a surface-level way. In an honest one.

Before asking better questions, there’s a decision to make:

Are you willing to see what’s actually happening in your business, even if it points back to you?

Because your business is not operating separately from you.

You set the tone.

You set the standards.

You allow what continues.

Even when it doesn’t feel like it.

If something feels off, unclear, or frustrating, there is a reason it’s being allowed to operate that way.

And until you’re willing to see that clearly, nothing you try to fix will fully stick.

  • Free up your time for CEO-level tasks

  • Help you hit revenue goals faster

  • Improve client experience and retention

  • Reduce burnout and business stagnation

Ask...

Am I leading with clarity?

Am I communicating with consistency?

Am I taking care of myself and setting an example?

Before you post a job ask yourself:

  • What does the business need most?

  • Do I need help generating revenue?

  • Do I need more efficiency behind the scenes?

Because your team, your contractors, and even your clients are often reacting to the environment you’ve created, consciously or not.

What You Plant Internally Shows Up Externally

A peach seed doesn’t grow an apple tree.
What’s sown inside will always show up outside.

That means the frustration you’re feeling about your team or your results might be connected to unspoken expectations, misaligned priorities, or unclear systems that started with you.

That’s not something to feel shame about.
It’s something to notice, with honesty and self-leadership.

This is what I call Reality for Growth’s Sake - It's when you look at what's really going on, not to blame, but to GROW.

Common Signs of Internal Misalignment

You don’t need to dig deep to see the signs. They usually show up loud and clear:

  • You say yes to things you regret later.

  • You are constantly putting out fires instead of building anything stable

  • Your team keeps coming to you for answers they should already have

  • You feel frustrated with your team, and cannot understand why they don’t intuitively know what to do

  • You hire quickly, then feel unsure or disappointed soon after

  • You avoid difficult conversations, then resent the outcomes

  • You feel like you are always working harder than everyone else

  • You keep “fixing” the same problems over and over

  • You hesitate to put structure in place because you don’t want to be “too rigid”

  • You say you want to grow, but your actions keep you in control of everything

If any of that sounds familiar, take a pause...

These aren’t character flaws.

They’re signals that your internal leadership systems needs attention.

What These Things Typically Point To

  • Lack of clarity about what you actually want your business to become

  • Fear of losing control

  • Discomfort with authority or leadership identity

  • Avoidance of conflict or accountability

  • Over-identifying as “the one who does everything”

  • Needing to feel needed

  • Not trusting other people to meet your standards

  • Not trusting yourself to lead them clearly

Your business will only stabilize to the level that you do.

Self-Leadership Isn't Optional

As a founder, you don’t just lead tasks.

You lead people.

And before you can lead others with confidence,

you have to lead yourself.

It means being honest.

Honest about what’s working.

Honest about what isn’t.

Honest about the role you play in both.

This is where most founders get stuck. Not because they don’t care, but because it’s easier to stay focused on everything outside of them.

The team.

The workload.

The pressure.

But leadership starts the moment you stop seeing yourself as someone dealing with the business, and start seeing yourself as the one shaping it.

That means letting go of the need to explain why things are the way they are, and choosing to see them clearly instead.

From there, clarity becomes possible:

  • Clear on your vision.

  • Clear on your priorities.

  • Clear on what you want your business to feel like, not just what you want it to earn.

If you’re not leading yourself with structure and care, your business will mirror that disorganization.

And if you are, your business will reflect that too.

How to Practice Self-Leadership This Week

Before you change anything, make this decision:

You’re going to stop explaining your business, and start seeing it.

No softening. No justifying. No skipping over what’s uncomfortable.

From there, start small. But start differently.

  • Pause before you respond: Give yourself space before solving problems, answering questions, or stepping in. Ask, “Should I be the one handling this?”

  • Stop being the default solution: When your team brings you something, ask them what they think first. Let them think. Let it feel a little uncomfortable.

  • Pick one area of instability: Where does your business feel the most frustrating right now? Focus there instead of trying to fix everything.

  • Set one clear standard: Not ten. One. Something your business can operate around instead of reacting to everything.

  • Say one thing you've been avoiding: A conversation. A correction. A reset. It doesn’t have to be perfect. It just has to be direct.

This isn’t about doing more.

It’s about stepping back into leadership in the places where you’ve been operating on autopilot.

Once you start leading this way, everything changes, including how you hire.

You stop hiring out of urgency, confusion, or overwhelm, and start hiring with clarity and structure.

That’s where the right people, and the right systems, begin to support your growth.

Ready to Take the NEXT STEPS to Start Hiring Like a Leader?

That’s why I created...

A complete set of plug-and-play templates, checklists, and step-by-step guides that walk you through every stage of hiring.

You’ll clarify the role before you post a job, attract the right candidates, interview with confidence, and set new hires up for success from day one.

My clients use these kits to streamline their hiring process, avoid costly missteps, and bring in team members who actually help them grow.

When you follow the system, you’re not just filling a role, you’re building a strong, lasting team that supports your vision.

Your Business Needs More Than a Mindset Shift

Hiring and leadership aren’t just about strategy.
They’re about structure.

That’s why I help women founders create people systems that reflect their values, support their goals, and build legacy businesses without burning out.

That’s also why the Hiring Success Kit includes several leadership tools to help you lead with clarity and confidence from day one.

And when you purchase the kit (it’s under $40), you’ll get a special, limited-time offer for even more tools — plus a 1:1 call with me — for 75% off!

The offer to work with me 1:1 is only available through the kits, so if you’ve ever wanted my personal guidance, this is your chance.

RECAP...

Your Business Is Telling You Something

Let's take a breath and bring it back:

  • Your business reflects what’s going on inside you.

  • If things feel misaligned on the outside, it’s worth looking inward.

  • The chaos might not be random. It might be familiar.

  • You don’t have to fix everything today, but you do need to pay attention.

You are not a victim of your business.

You are experiencing the result of what has been built, allowed, or avoided.

And while that can feel heavy, it’s also where your control is.

Because once you choose to see your business as it is, and recognize your role in shaping it, you can begin to change it with intention.

Self-leadership isn’t a side task. It’s the foundation for everything else you’re trying to build.

And it starts with telling yourself the truth.

If you're a small business owner who's ready to stop winging it when it comes to hiring, you're in the right place.

But hiring isn't just about filling a seat. It's about building a foundation for sustainable growth.

This post walks you through the exact hiring plan I use with my clients to help them scale their business confidently.

Whether you're making your first hire or trying to fix past hiring mistakes, this simple but strategic approach can change everything.

Why Your Hiring Strategy Matters More Than You Think

Most entrepreneurs wait too long to hire, or they make rushed decisions when things get overwhelming.

You’re missing key pieces of information that would have helped you make a better decision up front.

Hiring the right person in the right role can:

  • Free up your time for CEO-level tasks

  • Help you hit revenue goals faster

  • Improve client experience and retention

  • Reduce burnout and business stagnation

And yet, so many founders struggle because they:

  • Hire based on personality instead of skill

  • Skip onboarding and hope for the best

  • Confuse “help” with actual “fit”

Sound familiar? If so, this hiring plan is for YOU!
